FULLY IN IT | Leading and Growing in Motherhood, Business, and Home

Oct 9, 2018

Have you ever felt stuck or in between where you were and where you want to be? Have you ever wondered when life would get back to normal? In Episode 6 of the Streamlined Motherhood Podcast, Kate is talking about liminal space, or the in-betweens that naturally happen in life.

Mentioned in this episode:

Franciscian Friar Richard Rohr on liminal space: “where we are betwixt and between the familiar and the completely unknown. There alone is our old world left behind, while we are not yet sure of the new existence. That’s a good space where genuine newness can begin. Get there often and stay as long as you can by whatever means possible…This is the sacred space where the old world is able to fall apart, and a bigger world is revealed. If we don’t encounter liminal space in our lives, we start idealizing normalcy. The threshold is God’s waiting room. Here we are taught openness and patience as we come to expect an appointment with the divine Doctor.”

How to tell if you’re experiencing Liminal Space

Ask yourself:

  1. Have I recently made a big change to my life?
  2. Have I discovered a new piece of information and I’m not sure how this fits in with my values or beliefs?
  3. Has something traumatic or unsettling occurred that has pushed me into a new way of living that I wasn’t expecting?

Steps to Work Through Liminal Space

  1. Establish a gratitude practice, through visualization and meditation or journaling
  2. Cultivate your faith in the yet to be seen

Jen Sincero quote on faith: “Faith is having the audacity to believe in the not-yet seen. Faith is the muscle you use when you decide to blast outside of your comfort zone and transform your life into something that’s practically unrecognizable to you in your present reality. Faith smothers your fear of the unknown. Faith allows you to take risks.
